If you enjoy . . . . . meeting fantastic friends . . . playing great games . . . making cool craft . . . learning fab facts . . . then Juniors is the place for you to be n:rgetic, if you are aged from 7 -11 years!

We love to have so much fun in the juniors! It’s great to be able to put our n:rg into things that we enjoy doing.  We can do allsorts like fundraise for our charity: ‘Guide Dogs for the Blind’; have sports coaching from some cool athletes; find out more about Jesus through things like special events and roadshows and care for the people in our community by helping them with their gardening . . . . there really is just so much to do – it’s great!!

When we have completed our challenges, we can earn a selection of badges to wear. These help us to remember all the fun things that we have done and achieved. Juniors is a great place to n:rgize with friends!!

Slushy Snow Ice Cream!!!
It may be cold but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t eat ice cream!! Christmas is a great time in which to make some ‘Slushy Snow Ice Cream’!! You can have plenty of fun preparing it, shaping it into a snowman and then of course . . . . eating it all up before it melts!!!

You will need:
Tablespoon
Small Glass
Large Bowl
Tea Towel
Cream
Milk
White Chocolate Powder
Ice Cubes
Salt

To make:
Mix a tablespoon of cream with two of milk and one of white chocolate powder, in a small glass.
Put a layer of ice cubes at the bottom of a bowl and sprinkle these with a little salt.
Put the glass on top of the ice cubes and then carefully pile up some more layers of ice and salt around it.
Cover the bowl with a tea towel and leave it to rest. Stir every few minutes.
After an hour, take the glass out of the bowl and you will see that you have made yourself some delicious ‘Slushy Snow Ice Cream’!!
Put on your favourite Christmas carol CD and enjoy!!

But how does this work . . . ?
You could be asking yourself this very question! Well, the towel stops warm air from flowing into the chilled bowl. The salt forces the ice to melt fast, and the melting ice takes away the heat from the mixture, forcing it to chill until it freezes!! How cool is that!!!

Gruesome Gunky Goo!!

If you don’t mind getting messy - this is the experiment for you!!

You will need:
Two friends
Two cups
Cornflour
Large bowl
Green food colouring
Water
Plastic sheet / covering

To make:
Place the plastic sheet/covering onto a flat surface. On top of this place your large bowl.
Put two cups of cornflour into the bowl and to this add some food colouring.
Whilst one of your friends slowly adds one cup of water, the other mushes the mixture by using their hands.
You will notice after a while that you will have created a ‘Gruesome Gunky Goo’!!

Check this out:
Squeeze a handful of the goo, then stop squeezing and open your hand.
Pick up a blob and roll it between your hands to make a solid ball. Stop and let the ball rest.
Try and squeeze the goo through some kitchen utensils (remember to clean them afterwards!!)

Strange things happen eh . . .!?!

What’s going on?
Sometimes your goo is a liquid and sometimes it becomes a solid. This is because the cornflour doesn’t dissolve properly. Instead it forms a strange liquid called a ‘colloid’. These do weird things like the harder you press the harder it feels, but when you relax and open up your hand it goes all soft and runny! Great fun!!!

Check out the below text messages - they’re all verses from the Bible – can you work out what they say?

The Bible is full of great messages for our lives like those above. It’s great to read, remember and live them out.

Why not write some Bible text messages of your own – there’s plenty of verses to choose from!! Email these into nrgize@girlsbrigadeew.org.uk .

You can also order posters from www.cpo-online.org.uk with Bible text messages on – they look really cool!!

Have fun!!

Make your summer full of fizz, by creating your very
own ‘Fizz Powder’. This will certainly give your cool
and refreshing drinks a life of their own! Enjoy!!

You will need:
Baking soda
Citric acid crystals
Icing sugar
Large bowl
Teaspoon
Pen
Large spoon
Drinks glass
Jar with screw on lid
Plain drink (eg orange juice)
Sticky labels

To fizz up your drink!!
Put six teaspoons of citric acid crystals and three teaspoons of baking soda into the bowl.
With the back of the spoon, grind the two together so as to make a fine powder.
Stir in two tablespoons of icing sugar. Pour into your jar and label ‘Fizz Powder’.
To fizz up your drink: put two spoons of the ‘Fizz Powder’ into a tall sized glass and then top up with a plain drink.
Sit back, sip and enjoy!

Get Connected!!
In the Bible (Matthew 5:13-16) it talks about the importance of Christians being like ‘salt and light’ – making an impact on those around them, so that they too can discover Jesus! So, just like the ‘Fizz Powder’ makes a difference to the drink, we too need to make sure that we are impacting others with the love of Jesus. Have a think whilst you sip on your drink, about how you can do that today – and show Jesus’ love to others.

Christmas Karaoke is so cool!! For those people who want to get ‘stars in their eyes’ this Christmas, why not hold your very own ‘Christmas Karaoke’ event!!

Some quick advice:
Include a range of songs – both traditional and modern carols will be popular.
Have plenty of water on hand . . . to smooth the voice of course . . . !!
Oh . . . and don’t forget your ear plugs!

Have fun (why not send in your recordings to N:rgize at GBCO – we’d love to listen to them!).

Did you know? The book of Psalms in the Bible contains lots of songs written to and for God – why not check this out!
